Journal - What are your hobbies and extra curricular activities? Where do you spend your free time? Tell me three of your favorite things (movies, TV show, magazine, sport, color, etc.)

I have a lot of hobbies and I do a lot of extra curricular activities. My hobbies include singing, playing instruments, and writing songs. I love singing and I don't think I could go a day without it. I play the drums, guitar, and piano. I write songs a lot because I'm easily inspired. My extra curricular activities are soccer, volleyball, and taekwondo. I love playing soccer and my teams staring back up next week. I play for Lawrence same with volleyball. I don't really consider taekwondo one of my hobbies too because I kind of grew out of it.
I usually spend my free time in my room singing or writing. If not there, at the park with my friends playing soccer or volleyball. Sometimes if I have a lot of free time my parents will take me to Lawrence so I can spend time with my friends there.
My three favorite things are music, penguins, and jokes. My two favorite bands are One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer. I also like Sleeping with Sirens and All Time Low though. I don't really have a preference on music genre. My favorite animal is a penguin. I absolutely love penguins. I think they're really cute and since I want to be a marine biologist I'll get to work with them. I just really like jokes. I like any and all jokes no matter how cheesy or stupid they are. I like to laugh so jokes make my day.

Journal - What are some qualities of a good presentation? How can you make a boring presentation interesting? Explain.

Some qualities of a good presentation are loudness, personality, and confidence. You need to be loud because you need everyone to hear you. If you aren't loud then you won't be able to get your point across. The second quality is personality. You need to put personality into a presentation to make it good. You shouldn't have someone elses personality or else it won't sound like you. That goes along with voice in a presentation. The final quality is confidence. If you aren't confident then you aren't going to have a good presentation. You need to be confident in the work you did and in your attitude as well. So the qualities of a good presentation are loudness, personality or voice, and having confidence.
You can make a boring presentation interesting by putting more color, interesting facts, or adding more images, sounds, or videos into the presentation. By adding more color you'll make people look more. The more color you have, the more eye grabbing it will be. This doesn't mean to add a bunch of random colors but put complementary colors together so things will pop. If you add interesting facts then people will be more interested in the topic you're presenting. I tend to get tired whenever someone presents something and they don't give any interesting facts about their topic. Whenever you add pictures, sounds, or videos I think it makes it more interesting. I think that way because it gives you visual or sound for something. Making a presentation enjoyable is easy. Just add color, interesting facts, and visual or audio effects, and there you have it.

Journal - Tell me if you agree with this statement and then explain why or why not. "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it."

I disagree with the statement, "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it." I think they should expect someone to take their image every once in awhile but they should get credit. It's their image and they used their talents to make it. I know you have to cite it if they own the picture and you can't use it if they have it copy marked or trademarked. I still don't think that people shouldn't give credit to the publisher of the photo.

Journal - What is the importance of online safety and protecting your information? What do you do to protect yourself online? Share an experience you or someone you know has had with online safety.

The importance of online safety is that someone else cannot steal your identity or for someone to find you. If someone steals your identity then you have to go to the police to figure out how to get it back. If you put personal information on your social networks then someone could easily figure out where you live or your phone number. I have my personal profiles on private and I make sure not to put my phone number or kik username on any of my pages. I also don't write down my passwords ANYWHERE because anyone could find it. I remember a few years ago I had my phone number on my Facebook and I kept getting calls from a weird number. I also remember writing down my password and username for a site and someone got onto it and I started getting spam messages. I learned quickly that I shouldn't do either of the above and I really haven't had any problems since those experiences.

Journal - Tell me what you know about Web 2.0. List example Web 2.0 sites. Are you on any sites that let you “post” information? What are those sites? How often do you use them? What do you post on them?

Web 2.0 are sites that you can post information on. You can post pictures or statuses. Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Myspace, Vine, Pinterest, YouTube, Keek and Facebook are some examples. I usually only use Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and YouTube.  Tumblr is a blogging site basically. You can post pictures, statuses, or videos. I use Tumblr almost everyday because there are really funny posts, some sad posts, and then the occasional music video. I usually post pictures I find on the internet or funny sayings I find. Twitter is like a newer and better Facebook in my opinion. I use Twitter on a daily basis. I post whats happening in my life at the moment in time. Instagram is my favorite Web 2.0 site ever! I like that you can post pictures and videos and you can see everyone elses too. I use that on a daily basis too. I don't post everyday but I do go on and look at other peoples Instagrams. Vine is a site where you can post six second videos. I think its awesome how much you can put in six seconds. I don't use that as much as Tumblr,  Twitter, and Instagram  but I still go on it. I don't post a lot unless I think of something funny. I usually don't use Facebook unless someone sends me a notification. I don't post a lot usually people tend to tag me more than I post. YouTube is my favorite video site. I have a YouTube account and post a video of me singing every week. I like going and watching peoples covers of songs because I do covers as well. Over all, Instagram and YouTube are my favorite Web 2.0 sites.

Journal - After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."

I took away from Ashton Kutcher’s acceptance speech his three points he made. One, taking opportunities. He said that opportunities looked like hard work and I believe that to be true. You have to take the opportunity to work hard in order to succeed in life. You have to do your best in order to get somewhere. Point number two, being sexy. I completely agree that the sexiest thing ever is when someone is smart and generous. Smartness brings intelligence into a conversation and generosity obviously brings kindness. Third point, living life. You need to live your life to the fullest not listening to the negative things around you. People telling you what you can and can’t do. Where would we be if the Wright Brothers hadn't done what was thought to be impossible? So I took from Ashton Kutcher’s acceptance speech that hard work is opportunity, being smart is being sexy, and you need to live your life.

I believe the quote means that just because someone did something that influenced the country doesn't mean you can’t do something to influence the world. You need to take chances to change the world around us in a positive way. We need to influence the good in this world to push out the bad. I think the quote means that everyone is equal and that just because it may seem that we aren't, we truly are. Just because one person is richer than you, they’re still as smart as you. So I think Ashton said this quote to influence others to do great things.
