Journal - Where are you right now on your "Who Do You Think You Are" project? What did you do over the break for the project? Did you interview anyone? Use the checklist below to figure out what you have finished, what you are still working on and what you still have to do.
Over the break I asked my family a couple questions. I had already interviewed them but I was just asking about family health and such. I already finished my two interviews and finished typing my transcripts. I've also finished my persuasive letter. I've filled out all I know from the interviews and from previous knowledge on FamilyEcho. I've started adding information onto my Prezi and have all 15 of my bubbles. My Picktochart has an outline already I just have to fill in all the information. I have an idea for my stop motion I just have to make it.

Journal - How did you stop motion animation turn out? If you could give it a grade, what would you give it out of 60 points? What did you learn from creating this video?
I think it turned out pretty well. I would probably give myself about a 55 to a 60. I learned that it takes a lot of time to make a good stopmotion. I also learned that you can do a lot of things in movie maker.

Journal - What photo editing tool(s) have you used so far on your 5 photos project? Do you like the tool? Is it easy to use? Hard to use? What's good about it? Whats bad about it? Give a detailed review of the tool.
So far I've been using Pixlr. I absolutely love the tool. In fact, when I got home I downloaded the app and then showed it to my modeling manager. I think it's very easy to use. I think everything is good about it. It has tons of choices, is extremely easy to do, and it looks super cool after you do a couple things to your photo. You can download a lot of different overlayers to use and a lot of different accent colors. There is also a choice to use frames. There's a couple different programs on it so you can choose which one you like the best. I like it because it gives you a lot of choices but I also hate it because of that. It gives you so many choices you could be working on one picture for days and find several things you like.

Journal - What are the pros and cons to photo editing? What are some examples of when photo editing is fun and appropriate? When can photo editing be inappropriate or too much?
The pros of photo editing are that you can make an image look cooler than they looked before. Another pro is that you can make an image your own. A con is that it can take a long time. Well, an appropriate time is definitely for selfies. I'm just kidding, that's more of a fun thing but an appropriate time is if you're in a photo contest where you can actually edit the photos. Inappropriate is when people put the weird stickers and stuff on their photos. I think that is just plain weird and I personally think it looks tacky.

Journal - What do you love about the "digital age" that we currently live in? What do you dislike about it? What are positives ways you use technology in your life? What are some things that come along with technology that you don't like? Explain.
I love that I can do almost everything on my phone. I can type a paper, tell my mom I'm on my way home, and even talk to my friends "face to face" that are hours away. I dislike that it kind of breaks people apart though. An example is whenever I'm at my friends house, I think we text a lot more than we talk in person. I stay connected with my friends and family from all over the world. I also use my technology to do my homework. Once again, I don't like that it kind of tears people apart.

Journal - What makes a presentation memorable? What makes a presentation stand out and not boring? How are you going to make your presentation better than anyone else? How will you make it unique? Explain.
I think a presentation is memorable when no one else has one like yours. If they are all the same then they get really boring. I think another thing that effects the presentation is the speaker. If the speaker is just plain old Jane and doesn't seem excited, the viewers won't be either. I'm making mine memorable because mine is a stop motion and no one else has done a stop motion. I'm using JellyCam to do it so I think it will be pretty unique.

Journal - Tell me about your weekend.
This weekend I had a lot of fun but I was really busy. On Friday I went to the Magic Kingdom and it was a crazy night. That was the Halloween party night so there were tons of people. I got to see a lot of villains, go on lots of rides, and get candy galore. On Saturday, I was at a tournament for my brothers and my dad. I basically walked around the stadium a couple times and then finally found someone to talk to, but it was really boring until then. That night, we went to Down Town Disney and went to Benihanas and then went shopping. I didn't get anything because I was saving my money for Epcot. On Sunday, we went to Epcot which is my favorite park! We went on a couple rides and then went over to the food and wine festival which features food from around the world. I got things from France, the UK, and Japan. My weekend was super crazy but extremely fun.

I think my favorite by far was Text2MindMap. It's is my favorite because it was very organized and it kept all my things in one place. I can use it whenever I'm doing research projects for ANY of my classes.

Journal - Tell me about your Homecoming weekend (whether you went to the activities or not!). Tell me about what you did over the weekend.
My homecoming week was super awesome. On Friday I went to the homecoming game and I stayed until after half time because it was supposed to storm. I had a lot of fun there(minus us losing). Then Saturday morning I came to the school at 8 am because I was helping set up for homecoming. Later that day I started actually getting ready. My friend came to my house around 6 and we went to Greg's house at 6:30. We took lots of pictures then we went to the Cheesecake Factory which was amazing. I didn't get home until 1 because my friend lives in Lawrence so we had to drop him off. On Sunday I went to Johnson's Farm and my family and I picked pumpkins and went and looked at all the animals. After that, we went a Cider Mill near it and got donuts and cider(which was delicious). At 10 that night, my dad, older brother, and I sat down and watched the Chargers vs Raiders game(Chargers sadly lost). My homecoming weekend was so amazing and I can't wait until Sweethearts.

Journal - What are you weekend plans?
My plan for this weekend is go to soccer practice tonight, dance and work on Saturday, and start building our homecoming float on Sunday. Tonight I have soccer practice for two hours which we have to run four miles today so that's going to be fun. Saturday I have to be at work at eight am until noon. I work at my dads business so I usually just either sit at the desk or help entertain the kids that are waiting for their classes. At two, I have dance practice until seven. We're practicing for one of our competitions which I'm excited for. On Sunday, a couple of my friends and I are going over to our friend Jeremy's house to work on our homecoming float. I think it's going to turn out great and I'm really excited to see it finished,

Journal - Most students view siting work as 'a pain in the butt'. How do you feel about it? Is it necessary? When is it appropriate to cite work? What's the importance of it?
I do think citing is a pain in the butt even though it is necessary. I think it's a pain because it takes to much time to do it. It is necessary because someone created that work with hopefully their own words. It's appropriate to site your sources whenever you take an exact quote from an article or whenever you take a photo off of google or any other sites. The importance is making sure you give credit to the original work. If someone took my work without citing it I would be really upset.

Journal - What is your favorite book, magazine, or publication? Why?
My favorite book is Briar Rose by Jane Yolen. I like this book because I find things about the Holocaust interesting. I think it's an interesting topic. I also like this book because it kind of talks about Briar Rose which was one of my favorite stories when I was little. I liked it because it told a different "side" of the story. Another reason is because it has a very good plot which made me not want to put it down.

Journal - Do you enjoy writing? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why is writing an essential skill in life? How will you use this skill in the future?
Yes I do enjoy writing. I like writing fiction because I can use my imagination. My mind is always wandering and so while writing fiction stories I can always incorporate my thoughts into it. I also like writing nonfiction topics. Like science or history where we already have the facts I just have to organize it into paragraphs. I don't enjoy persuasive writing. I've never been a fan of persuading people into something. I'm not a very good at convincing to be completely honest. Writing is essential to life because you need to be able to write in order to get a job. You have to write up a transcript and most jobs you need to write at sometime. You can use writing in the future whenever you're applying for a job because most businesses want someone who can write well. Writing will also help your grammar because you learn from your mistakes. Grammar is a big part of a job too.

Journal - Why is creating an outline for a paper important? Do you think it helps you personally? How would you prefer to outline a paper - pen and paper or an online tool? Is there a different way you know if that would prefer to organize your thoughts?
Creating an outline for your paper is important so you can organize your thoughts in one place. If you don't have your thoughts written down you won't remember what you were thinking before. I think it helps me because I don't remember things very easily. My thoughts in my head are also sometimes really random so writing down things help me come back to a certain spot. I think typing things out for me is easier because then I can save it somewhere and not be scared that I lost it forever. I don't have to worry about not being able to read my handwriting if I'm just scribbling something down. I can't really think of any other way that I would prefer to organize my thoughts in.

Journal - Tell me about your weekend. Where did you go? What did you do?
This weekend I was really busy. On Friday after school I had an ice cream social where I served little kids from my dads work ice cream. I actually had a lot of fun considering what I was doing. The kids at my dads work are really funny and energetic. We went through five eight-pint ice cream containers and tons of condiments. On Saturday I had mostly a rest day until four P.M. when I had to go to dance until eight. I have a big competition coming up so we had to work on my solo over and over again. On Sunday, my friend Grace came over and hung out for an hour or two before we went over to Jeremy's house to work on our homecoming float. We started getting all the props ready and making final decisions and then we all just hung out for a bit. Around two I had to leave because I had a modeling photo shoot with Mr. Arlund. We did a lot of fun photos where I was jumping in the air and a lot where I was laughing. This weekend I had a lot of fun and I hope this weekend is just as fun.

Journal - Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?
The person I look up to is Katy Perry. I look up to her because she's an amazing singer, strong, and not afraid to be herself. I love to sing so she's a huge inspiration for me. She doesn't use a lot of auto tune either and I think that's a rare thing to find in the music industries in this generation. She's a strong person and can get through almost anything. When her and Russell Brand called their engagement off, she was on tour. She was extremely sad but she didn't want to let her fans down so she picked herself up and performed. I think that's a huge thing especially compared to the TLC member burning a house down. Finally, she's not afraid to be herself. She's super unique and I think that makes her special. Unlike other singers/actors/actresses, she doesn't do what everyone else is doing and has her own style. She's guided me to be the best I can be at singing, to get back up, and to be unique. Katy Perry is my idol.

Journal - What is good email etiquette and why is it essential in the "real" world? How can having good email etiquette put you ahead?
Good email etiquette is whenever your email is formal and you wouldn't be embarrassed if you sent it to someone important. It's essential to the real world because you need to be able to write a good email in case you are having trouble with something or if your boss gives you a job that requires you to interview someone. You want to make a good impression on the person so you want to have good email skills. If you have good email etiquette then you can get ahead because people will respond to your emails with respect and not look down upon you. If you don't use your etiquette then they probably won't hire you either.

Journal - If there was one big global issue in the world that you could fix, what would it be? A cure for cancer? Save the rain forest? Stop pollution? Think about it and then write about it. Why would you choose that specific issue?
I would want to find the cure for cancer. A lot of my relatives suffer from it like my aunt and many of my relatives have passed away from it. It also runs in my family health. My great grandma and grandpa had it, my great great grandpa had it, and it's possible that my grandparents could potentially get it. It would be great if we could find a cure to all cancers but that wouldn't happen all at once. If we could cure one type at a time I would be happy. That way, people not only wouldn't have to suffer through cancer and the treatment but also their families wouldn't have to suffer watching their pain. I think that finding for a cure for cancer would be massive because so many people suffer from it.

Journal - On Friday we discussed Public Service Announcements. In your own words tell me what they are and what their purpose is. If you could create a PSA what would your topic be? Why?
Public Service Announcements(PSA) are when radios or television channels give out announcements about certain topics such as bullying, drug abuse, etc. without earning any money from it. The purpose of a PSA is to inform the listener about current issues going on in either their area or the world. If I were to create a PSA I would probably do it over drug abuse because Cory Monteith and other actors/actresses took their life with it and it could easily happen to a student if he/she had the right connections.

Journal - What are your hobbies and extra curricular activities? Where do you spend your free time? Tell me three of your favorite things (movies, TV show, magazine, sport, color, etc.)
I have a lot of hobbies and I do a lot of extra curricular activities. My hobbies include singing, playing instruments, and writing songs. I love singing and I don't think I could go a day without it. I play the drums, guitar, and piano. I write songs a lot because I'm easily inspired. My extra curricular activities are soccer, volleyball, and taekwondo. I love playing soccer and my teams staring back up next week. I play for Lawrence same with volleyball. I don't really consider taekwondo one of my hobbies too because I kind of grew out of it.I usually spend my free time in my room singing or writing. If not there, at the park with my friends playing soccer or volleyball. Sometimes if I have a lot of free time my parents will take me to Lawrence so I can spend time with my friends there.
My three favorite things are music, penguins, and jokes. My two favorite bands are One Direction and 5 Seconds of Summer. I also like Sleeping with Sirens and All Time Low though. I don't really have a preference on music genre. My favorite animal is a penguin. I absolutely love penguins. I think they're really cute and since I want to be a marine biologist I'll get to work with them. I just really like jokes. I like any and all jokes no matter how cheesy or stupid they are. I like to laugh so jokes make my day.

Journal - What are some qualities of a good presentation? How can you make a boring presentation interesting? Explain.
Some qualities of a good presentation are loudness, personality, and confidence. You need to be loud because you need everyone to hear you. If you aren't loud then you won't be able to get your point across. The second quality is personality. You need to put personality into a presentation to make it good. You shouldn't have someone elses personality or else it won't sound like you. That goes along with voice in a presentation. The final quality is confidence. If you aren't confident then you aren't going to have a good presentation. You need to be confident in the work you did and in your attitude as well. So the qualities of a good presentation are loudness, personality or voice, and having confidence. You can make a boring presentation interesting by putting more color, interesting facts, or adding more images, sounds, or videos into the presentation. By adding more color you'll make people look more. The more color you have, the more eye grabbing it will be. This doesn't mean to add a bunch of random colors but put complementary colors together so things will pop. If you add interesting facts then people will be more interested in the topic you're presenting. I tend to get tired whenever someone presents something and they don't give any interesting facts about their topic. Whenever you add pictures, sounds, or videos I think it makes it more interesting. I think that way because it gives you visual or sound for something. Making a presentation enjoyable is easy. Just add color, interesting facts, and visual or audio effects, and there you have it.

I disagree with the statement, "Images on the internet are 'free game' - if someone posted I should be able to use it." I think they should expect someone to take their image every once in awhile but they should get credit. It's their image and they used their talents to make it. I know you have to cite it if they own the picture and you can't use it if they have it copy marked or trademarked. I still don't think that people shouldn't give credit to the publisher of the photo.

Journal - What is the importance of online safety and protecting your information? What do you do to protect yourself online? Share an experience you or someone you know has had with online safety.
The importance of online safety is that someone else cannot steal your identity or for someone to find you. If someone steals your identity then you have to go to the police to figure out how to get it back. If you put personal information on your social networks then someone could easily figure out where you live or your phone number. I have my personal profiles on private and I make sure not to put my phone number or kik username on any of my pages. I also don't write down my passwords ANYWHERE because anyone could find it. I remember a few years ago I had my phone number on my Facebook and I kept getting calls from a weird number. I also remember writing down my password and username for a site and someone got onto it and I started getting spam messages. I learned quickly that I shouldn't do either of the above and I really haven't had any problems since those experiences.

Journal - Tell me what you know about Web 2.0. List example Web 2.0 sites. Are you on any sites that let you “post” information? What are those sites? How often do you use them? What do you post on them?
Web 2.0 are sites that you can post information on. You can post pictures or statuses. Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Myspace, Vine, Pinterest, YouTube, Keek and Facebook are some examples. I usually only use Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Facebook, and YouTube. Tumblr is a blogging site basically. You can post pictures, statuses, or videos. I use Tumblr almost everyday because there are really funny posts, some sad posts, and then the occasional music video. I usually post pictures I find on the internet or funny sayings I find. Twitter is like a newer and better Facebook in my opinion. I use Twitter on a daily basis. I post whats happening in my life at the moment in time. Instagram is my favorite Web 2.0 site ever! I like that you can post pictures and videos and you can see everyone elses too. I use that on a daily basis too. I don't post everyday but I do go on and look at other peoples Instagrams. Vine is a site where you can post six second videos. I think its awesome how much you can put in six seconds. I don't use that as much as Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram but I still go on it. I don't post a lot unless I think of something funny. I usually don't use Facebook unless someone sends me a notification. I don't post a lot usually people tend to tag me more than I post. YouTube is my favorite video site. I have a YouTube account and post a video of me singing every week. I like going and watching peoples covers of songs because I do covers as well. Over all, Instagram and YouTube are my favorite Web 2.0 sites.

Journal - After watching the short clip of Ashton Kutcher's acceptance speech what did you take away from his advice? What does this quote mean to you -"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you, and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use."
I took
away from Ashton Kutcher’s acceptance speech his three points he made. One,
taking opportunities. He said that opportunities looked like hard work and I believe
that to be true. You have to take the opportunity to work hard in order to
succeed in life. You have to do your best in order to get somewhere. Point
number two, being sexy. I completely agree that the sexiest thing ever is when
someone is smart and generous. Smartness brings intelligence into a
conversation and generosity obviously brings kindness. Third point, living
life. You need to live your life to the fullest not listening to the negative
things around you. People telling you what you can and can’t do. Where would we
be if the Wright Brothers hadn't done what was thought to be impossible? So I took
from Ashton Kutcher’s acceptance speech that hard work is opportunity, being smart
is being sexy, and you need to live your life.
I
believe the quote means that just because someone did something that influenced
the country doesn't mean you can’t do something to influence the world. You
need to take chances to change the world around us in a positive way. We need
to influence the good in this world to push out the bad. I think the quote
means that everyone is equal and that just because it may seem that we aren't,
we truly are. Just because one person is richer than you, they’re still as
smart as you. So I think Ashton said this quote to influence others to do great
things.
